Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that provides a discreet and effective orthodontic alternative to traditional wire braces. The clear aligners are manufactured from SmartTrack material, which has been designed solely for Invisalign. SmartTrack material is ideal for Invisalign treatment because it applies gentle and constant force, can control tooth movements up to 50% faster and with 75% more predictability, and can fit snugly and comfortably around your teeth. By wearing Invisalign aligners for 22 hours a day, you can obtain amazing orthodontic results without having to deal with the inconvenience of traditional wire braces.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Am I a candidate for Invisalign aligners?

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign aligners work by exerting a certain amount of pressure on your teeth in order to move them into the correct alignment. During Invisalign treatment, you will go through a series of aligners with each aligner being fitted for a particular part of your treatment. Most aligners are worn for 1-2 week increments. These aligners will be worn for at least 22 hours a day and will only be removed when eating, brushing, or flossing.
To determine your treatment plan, Dr. Paul H. Kim will scan your teeth with an electric scanner to obtain information used to fabricate your custom aligners. This information will also be used with Invisalign’s ClinCheck software to map out your treatment plan. Before beginning your treatment, Dr. Kim will be able to show you the predicted results and give you an idea of how long your treatment will last.
For some treatment plans, SmartForce attachments may be used to obtain the best results. These attachments are small shapes that are attached to your teeth. They are used to apply a concentrated amount of force on a particular area, much like traditional braces but without the need for metal brackets. Because of their size and the fact that they are tooth-colored, they are hardly noticeable.
Does Invisalign treatment hurt?
Because there is pressure being exerted on your teeth during Invisalign treatment, you may experience some minor discomfort. Patients usually report this discomfort when wearing a new aligner. Discomfort associated with wearing new aligners generally wears off once your teeth have adjusted and can be managed with over the counter pain medications. One benefit to Invisalign, however, is that you will not have to deal with the soft tissues of your mouth being rubbed or poked like you would with traditional metal braces.
Do I need to make any dietary changes during Invisalign treatment?
No! The great news with Invisalign treatment is that your aligners are able to be completely removed during meals. This means that you can continue to eat whatever you want while undergoing Invisalign treatment without having to worry about damaging your aligners. You also won’t have to worry about food becoming stuck behind metal brackets or wires. However, you will need to be sure to brush your teeth after meals or drinks to keep your aligners clean.
How long does Invisalign treatment last?
The average time span for Invisalign treatment is about 12-18 months, however your individual treatment may be shorter or longer depending on your case. During your initial consultation, Dr. Kim will be able to give you a better idea of how long your individual Invisalign treatment will last.
Do I need to follow any special instructions to care for my aligners?
Yes, you will need to follow a few special instructions to make sure your aligners stay in good shape. For starters, you will need to keep both your teeth and your aligners clean to maintain your oral hygiene. This means brushing your teeth after meals and flossing at least once daily. You will also need to brush your aligners every night and rinse them with warm water to keep them clean. Be sure to avoid rinsing them with hot water because this will cause their shape to change, which can alter your treatment results. Finally, you will need to protect your aligners from becoming damaged while they are not in your mouth. To accomplish this, simply leave them in their protective case when you are eating, brushing, or flossing.
What happens after Invisalign treatment?
After your Invisalign treatment is complete, you will need to wear a retainer to maintain your new smile. With Invisalign, you can either choose between a traditional wire retainer or the more discreet, Vivera retainer. With most treatments, you are to wear your retainer full time at first and then you can gradually progress to wearing it only at night. To keep your smile in place, it is extremely important that you follow Dr. Kim’s instructions regarding your retainer.
What is the price of Invisalign?
The average cost of Invisalign treatment can range anywhere from $3000-$8000. However, the cost of your individual treatment will depend upon your individual case. This cost will be discussed with you during your consultation prior to receiving treatment. Additionally, if you have dental insurance, you can likely obtain some level of coverage to offset the total cost.
